Behind the Lens: A Day in the Life of a Youth Sports Photographer

As a parent, capturing your child’s shining moments as a sports star is a wonderful experience. Dressed in their uniform, holding their soccer ball, tennis racket, or bat, your child smiles for the camera.

Like a professional sports star smiling for the camera, your child gets to experience the excitement of a photo shoot. Those memories, caught on film, bring smiles all around and make your child feel like a superstar. But who is behind the camera?

At Sports Star Photography, we aim our lens to capture your child’s team and solo photos. There are many reasons why you should invest in youth sports photography, but just how does the Sports Star Photography team do it day in and day out? We’ll share a glimpse into our world as youth sports photographers so you can see just how passionate we are about our job.

Before the Photoshoot

A professional photographer can’t just arrive on time to take photos. We spend time preparing for each shoot in all of the following ways:

Equipment Check

First, we always make sure our equipment is in top shape and working properly. We may clean our gear, change and charge batteries, and make sure we have all our equipment packed.

Weather Check

Weather checks are important for outdoor sports. Rain can sometimes dampen the photography experience. If it looks like a great day for photography, we finish preparing for the photo shoot.

Pack and Travel

Our gear gets loaded up, and we travel to the location of your child’s school or sports complex. We want to film your child where they play to capture the best moments.

During the Photoshoot

When we arrive on location, we immediately survey the grounds and prepare for the photoshoot.

Set Up Our Equipment

Once we arrive, we will set up lights, tripods, cameras, and any other equipment we might need. We’ll select the best location for the photos and prepare.

Capture the Moments

Each team and individual will have a scheduled time for the photoshoot. We will hand out QR code packs with the team’s QR code on them. We will film the individual shots first and then capture the entire time together. We will interact with the young sports stars, coaches, and parents to ensure a smooth process from start to finish.

After the Photoshoot

After the photoshoot, we’ll pack up our gear and say our goodbyes.

Back-Up Photos

Once we can get to our computers, we’ll back up all the photos we took and sort them out by team and individual. We make sure that none of our data will be lost in the event of an accident.

Editing

Next, we will edit the photos. This is a big part of our job. We want to make sure that every smile is gleaming and everything is flawless. We will review and select the best shots, make adjustments to lighting and color, and ensure they meet your specifications. This process can take about two weeks after the picture day has finished.

Delivery

When we’re finished with the editing process, we will deliver a link via email. Also, your specific QR code will take you to your child’s gallery. That will allow you to view the photos of your child. For privacy reasons, we password-protect every gallery.

We use a View First model, which means you can view, crop, and customize your photos before placing an order. Each player will have three photos to choose from, and there is a crop option for the team and individual photos. You can also customize the text on the pictures.
