The Evolution of Youth Sports Photography: Trends & Innovations

With rapidly changing technology, photography has become more than a point-and-shoot profession.

There are many new trends and innovations in photography that help us capture a whole new angle and vision of our youth sports participants. From AI tools to drones, capturing photos of a student-athlete has become more immersive and exciting for all parties involved.

Sports Star Photography is well-versed with some of the latest trends in sports photography, including some of the following innovations in photography that you can incorporate into your next photoshoot!

Aerial Drone Photography

Dones are immensely popular and are inexpensive enough for most people to afford one. A perk of drone technology is the ability to record photographs and video from above, capturing a completely different angle. Until recently, we could only capture photos of young athletes from the ground, face-on.

With a drone, amp up the energy of a photo shoot by giving the athlete many angles and poses captured from above. Or, capture a series of photos as the athlete swings a bat or serves a volleyball. Every motion and movement can be photographed from a moving drone, enhancing the visual and making a statement.

360-Degree Images

Camera technology has advanced so much that we can take 360-degree, panoramic images. By taking multiple photos and stitching them together, you can create a unique photographic experience of a young athlete in a dancer’s pose or in action.

It is even possible to embed the images with multimedia elements, which creates a more engaging viewing experience. After all, most smartphones have “live photos” features that capture a brief video rather than a single picture. With these techniques, you can enhance movement and space in a student athlete’s photos.

Virtual Reality Experiences

Virtual Reality (VR) technology has advanced quickly, and there’s no reason to avoid it! VR photos and videos can help create immersive experiences for the viewer.

The viewer is the one who frames the scene and moves around, rather than the photographer trying to capture the entire pose. There is software that allows you to capture an athlete from multiple angles and compresses the images into a real-time, fully 3D human image.

Enhanced Editing and Retouching Techniques

Software and other editing tools are advancing as well. As programs like Adobe Photoshop and similar programs get more advanced, new techniques exist to learn when editing and retouching photos. Using these newer techniques, you can create visually striking images while showcasing your artistic vision.

AI-Based Assistance

When we talk about artificial intelligence, we’re not talking about the AI tools that create new images from existing images on the Internet. Instead, we’re talking about AI tools that can help you organize and sort through many photographs or assist in the editing process.

There are also AI tools that can help increase image resolutions. While AI is a hotly debated topic, there’s no reason to ignore the benefits of some AI tools to help you save time.
